Hello I'm Helen Harrison

Based in Nottingham, I am a Psychotherapist with over 14 Years experience, holding space for people as they navigate their inner worlds. Over time I have felt the limitations of words alone and found myself drawn to sound. Sound has always been in my life but now its part of my practise: a way to drop beneath thought, into the body, into truth. Through sound baths using Himalayan bowls, Crystal bowls, a gong and chimes, I help to guide the nervous system into deep rest and reconnection.

How sound can heal us

Sound is a vital part of our environment it not only enriches our lives but also has a powerful influence on our emotional and physical wellbeing.

Scientific research into brainwaves has shown that our brains are capable of producing multiple frequencies at once. This means we can be relaxed, focused, and problem-solving all at the same time thanks to the brain’s incredible multitasking ability.

Sound itself is energy in motion. It travels in waves through air, water, or even solids. When something vibrates like a Himalayan bowl, crystal bowls or gongs it creates ripples in the surrounding space. These ripples, known as sound waves, move by compressing and expanding the medium they pass through. Technically, these are called longitudinal waves, because the particles move in the same direction as the wave is traveling.

By understanding how sound affects us on a physical and neurological level, we begin to see why sound baths can feel so deeply calming and restorative.

Sound baths can offer real support for those dealing with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, or emotional fatigue. The soothing tones help slow down the nervous system, encouraging the body to move out of a fight-or-flight state and into a more relaxed, receptive one. Many people experience a sense of emotional release during or after a sound bath, as the vibrations help to gently shift stagnant energy. For some, it offers relief from symptoms of depression or overwhelm, creating a space for quiet connection and inner peace.

What’s happening inside the brain during this time is just as beautiful. As we relax, the brain begins to release natural feel-good chemicals like oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine. These neurochemicals not only ease stress and elevate mood, but also strengthen the immune system and support our overall emotional wellbeing. It's one of the ways sound reminds the body how to rest, restore, and come back into balance.

Your body already knows how to heal, sound just helps it remember.

What to bring for outdoor Sound Bath

To make the most of your sound bath experience, bring anything that helps you feel cosy and supported. A yoga mat, blanket, and cushion for under your head or knees are great basics. You might also want to bring an eye mask or something to cover your eyes, and wear comfortable, layered clothing to help you stay warm and relaxed. Most importantly, come with an open mind and give yourself permission to fully unwind.

After care

The body and mind may feel deeply relaxed or open, so allow space to gently return to everyday awareness. Drink water, move slowly, and if possible, spend a few moments in stillness or nature. Journaling or gentle stretching can also help integrate the experience. If you need to drive, take time to ground—feel your feet on the floor, take some deep breaths, and ensure you feel fully present before setting off. This mindful self-care honours your process and supports the continued benefits of the session
